If you have played Blackout, you will have noticed that there are over 30 different characters available for you to choose from in the main menu.
Many of these characters such as Frank Woods, Alex Mason, and Richtofen will all sound very familiar, as the vast majority of these characters will have all played a major part in the Black Ops series at some point in time, whether it be from the campaign, Multiplayer, or even Zombies.
Unfortunately though, in order to access these characters you must first unlock them.
In order to unlock the characters, you will need to find character specific items that are hidden within Blackout. Once you have found the mission item, you must complete a number of specific ‘Character Missions’ that will each have a number of tasks that are required to be completed.
If you fail the Character Missions during the match, items and tasks will not carry over to your next game.
In most cases, many of the items can be found by searching Supply Drops, Supply Boxes, and through looting zombies and fallen enemies. It’s important to remember, that most Character Missions will require you to keep the item in your inventory throughout the match.
It is also important to note, that unless the mission specifically states that you have to win a match, you simply just have to complete the match no matter if you win or get eliminated.
Echelons and Merits – What are they?
Not all characters require missions to be completed, as certain Blackout characters such as Ranger, Frogman, Airborne, Seal, and Battle Hardened can be unlocked by achieving specific Echelon levels or by simply purchasing the Battle Pass.
Echelon levels are tied into Call of Duty’s leveling system, in which players will receive merits (experience) every time they get a kill, win, complete a challenge, or even place high within the match. These merits will slowly begin to build up, raising your Echelon level.
Players can expect to receive the following merits for each specific task.
•Obtain the Ushanka Hat mission item. The hat can be found in the Estates or the Asylum.
•Get 1 Long Range Kill (200m or more).
•Place in the Top 2 Squads, Top 3 Duos, or Top 5 Solos with the Ushanka Hat in your inventory.
•Obtain the Stained White T-Shirt mission item. The T-Shirt can be obtained through Supply Stashes.
•Wake the Sleeper Agent by activating the Emergency Broadcast at the Array.
•Place in the Top 4 Squads, Top 8 Duos, or Top 15 Solos with the Stained White T-Shirt in your inventory.
